Naptown Connect: Foxx Interviews Ocean Green

Foxx: Who is Ocean Green?

Ocean Green: I'm a creator yo. I do everything, and people hate that. They only want me to be good at one thing, but I refuse to be in or out the box. I have no box at all. I am Ocean Green, & OG does whatever new experience life brings to him. I observe it & then become of it.

Foxx: So what type of material can we expect from Ocean Green this year?

Ocean Green: You can expect timeless music. I really value the arts and dig deep within myself to create music people will love forever. I've grown as a musician, and I expect a positive response from my listeners. wordap

Foxx: So Ocean, How did you get started with your music career?

Ocean Green: I had a very talented Uncle. He was like a local Jimi Hendrix. He was the baddest thing in Youngstown, Ohio. He played every instrument that you could possibly imagine. As his nephew, he installed in me that unlimited boundary. I wish he was still around physically to see what I am becoming, but his presence has never left my heart.

Foxx: Tell me about your latest project and where can we the public find it?

Ocean Green: My latest project "OCEAN DRIVE" was a bust. I'm a perfectionist, and I gave the people a project I was never happy about. Though, I've gained a following with it, I knew it wasn't enough to get me recognized as an elite talent. I've been hiding out working on my craft. The best example I can share with you is, when you see skinny musicians become body builders. It's a complete shock to people when you see how dedicated someone is to improving their presence. So musically, I can honestly sayÉ My shits on steroids now. You can follow my work at Oceanairs.com or follow me on twitter @oceangreen for faster real-time updates. yessir

Foxx: With the competition rising so heavily in the city, what sets you apart from the rest of the artists?

Ocean Green: I don't focus on the city. I use too and realized that was the worse way of going about being discovered. I love Indianapolis and what the city has to offer, but honestlyÉ this community is not known for it's market in music. So you are dealing w/ people who want to control and manipulate the scene to have power. To me, that is our biggest weakness. We compete compete compete with ourselves rather than unifying our gifts to capitalize off of everyones talents that can be resourceful and contributive to our own benefits. I'm not in competition with anyone nor myself. I focus on doing me, that's the difference. Shout out to them though ;)

Foxx: where does he see his generation heading in the next decade?

Ocean Green: It's heading towards individuality. People have been copying and pasting for far too long. When you sample a record, that is copy and paste. When you dress like someone else, that is copy and paste. When you make songs and rap about & like whoever is hot now, that is copy and paste. This has to stop and it's getting played out. I believe we are finding ourselves in this world. Becoming more aware of things in life outside of music. That in itself is making it more popular and ok to be yourself.

Foxx: What advice do you have for other upcoming artists?

Ocean Green: I promise not to give the political typical cliche answer. My advice for artist is to just get at me. SeriouslyÉ It's about establishing a network and a movement. If you think it's about "YOU", than you already lost. Treat the people around you good to get good results.

Foxx: What ’s your favorite thing to do when you aren't writing/producing/playing etc?

Ocean Green: I love to help people. Rather that is physically, financially or mentally. Friends and family look up to me as a life coach. I don't have everything in order in my personal life, but they respect my advice and I find great joy in sharing it.

Foxx: Who are your musical inspirations?

Ocean Green: Michael Jackson man. I was Michael Jackson. I moonwalked in my kitchen like it was a stage. I just wanted to be Michael. As I matured, I was really on Jay-Z & Pharrell. Those two drove me to become original. I find that they are the most comfortable in their own skin. I love honest music. I can only connect with honest music, it's most relatable to me because I am an honest person. I can respect thatÉ but wait, I must add that Lil Bow Wow & Will Smith played an instrumental role in my youth also. The Fresh Prince of Bellaire pretty much taught me how to rhyme and Bow Wow made me believe that I could do this because he was doing it big at such a young age. Real talk

Foxx: Why did you start making music?

Ocean Green: Because it's in me, it's inside of the reader, you, us, everyone. It's who we are. The universe has rhythm, time has a cadence and we are all synchronized with it. Music is the most natural process of our motion. So as long as my heart beats, my art speaks.

Foxx: Who was your inspiration?

Ocean Green: I'm inspired by silence, peace, & nothingness. When it is far too noisy, everything becomes a distraction. It's like you can't seem to find the answer to things when it's loud right? I turn the radio down when I'm close to an address I'm looking for simply because another signal has interrupted my thought pattern. So as a creator, I first black out. You can't turn the light on without it being dark first. This may sound everywhere because I am a man of logic, but in more simple termsÉ inspiration comes from within, not without.

Hey on another note, I want to thank you for having me. I appreciate your energy and if there is anything that I can do, you know how to reach me. That statement including this sentence you are now reading belongs in the interview also. I want to showcase my weirdness. I'm out, 1 - OG

Foxx: No Doubt man, Yo I appreciate you taking time out of your day to bless me with a few words and letting the people know more about your hustle and what you have going on. Naptown supports each other. We all we got. Stay up fam, we gon catch up over Bink  crib soon. 1
