Naptown Connect: Adrian Bless "The Pope"
Dj Foxx with DBoy Dj's Interviews Adrian Bless "The Pope"
Foxx: So what type of material can we expect from this year?
Pope: The material's raw and as real as I can possibly keep it. No questionable anything, to the point if need be, but never degrading the art form. A mixture of the two, the ingenuity as well as the actual story behind who I am and what keeps everything balanced. It's all bringing it back towards the art as well as what made the art even accepted in the first place.
Foxx: How did you get started?
Pope: I started randomly. I didn't envision necessarily doing hip hop as a possible career choice, I just had issues like anyone else had them. Therapy can only contribute to so much healing factor and it can only create so much barrier for release, so I ended up writing to dissipate whatever was holding me back at the time, A year ago, I took it a lot more seriously after a few vids on youtube, but aside from that, it was all therapy.
Foxx: Tell me about your latest project and where can we the public find it?
Pope: "AMII: 'Emotional Machine' " is damn near the reintroduction to something that's been here before and thats the creative tone that set precedent the art. Same time, it's all me. I kept everything me from beginning to end and some of it well hidden behind schemes and metaphors and so on and so forth. If need be, you can find the project here at adrianblessrwg.bandcamp.com
Foxx: With the competition rising so heavily in the city, what sets you apart from the rest of the artists?
Pope: Setting me apart from other emcees here in the city is one of those things I never really focused on, it was more so a selfish state of mind I was in. If I could sleep at night with the idea i let myself go into something i loved to do, i was cool. It's really up to the people here to explain that because, it's cliche for me to say something like "My grind and dedication sets me apart" when you have some of the wackest rappers with the same drive and motivation as me. It would mean nothing.
Foxx: where does he see his generation heading in he next decade?
Pope: The generation would possibly advance, same time, the generation grows as the taste grow more commercial, so all in all, it's a double edged sword in terms of that.
Foxx: What advice do you have for other upcoming artists?
Pope: My advice for up and coming artists is giving away free music doesn't harm a soul. Same time, griding is key in all aspects. You can be in the booth and make 24 mixtapes and none of em do numbers. Work smarter, not harder, same time quality over quantity is a key thing as well. Learn to be a brand, not just an emcee.
Foxx: What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing/producing/playing etc?
Pope: In my spare time, I sleep too damn much lol but, naw, honestly, just planning and plotting. I have too much time to kill.
Foxx: Who are your musical inspirations?
Pope: Musical inspirations consist of 2Pac, Stack Bundles, Joe Budden, a little bit of Scarface and so on and so forth. I don't have no actual top 5 if anyone ever asked me.
Foxx: Why did you start making music?
Pope: I started making music to guarantee me staying alive. I always felt there was more so a problem with me because, i suffered depression and dealt with abnormal situations at hand I didn't need. It all ended up going towards the music, but all in all, it was more so to keep me grounded.
Foxx: Who was your inspiration?
Pope: As far as my inspiration goes, myself. All I had in the world was me, i believed in myself and that's what driven me to go as far as i did now.
